07/10/08 - RAPID UPGRADES JUBAIL LANDMARK

RAPID, the Middle East's largest provider of powered access equipment, is helping to change the face of a well know landmark in Jubail KSA.

Rapid Dhahran depot has provided a 44 mtr Bronto, to assist with painting and rebranding of 40 mtr. Water towers that have dominated the Eastern side of Jubail for the past 15 years.

The rebranding was necessary since the set up of Marafiq in KSA, who are responsible for supplying water & electricity services to the Royal Commission of Jubail & Yanbu.

For this specialist work, Marafiq contractors have hired one, 44 meter lift. The machine was chosen for its extreme high reach ability combined with its articulated boom capacity, which makes it ideal to access this difficult position which is not only extremely high but is also spherical.

An alternative method was considered but the erection time alone would have taken 6 weeks as opposed to the Bronto 44 that can get blasters & painters to the work area on top of the tower in 3 minutes.

The Bronto 44 was also a perfect choice because with a stable platform the painters could achieve a smooth and consistent finish to outer protective layer of this tower that will be exposed to the harsh Gulf weather.

The contactors coating engineer commented, "This is our first venture into using powered access for this work and we are very pleased with not only the consistent finish of the paint layers but also the time taken to complete the work. Each tank took on average 5 - 6 to apply 5 coats of paint and finishing, and also to complete application of new Marafiq logo. We have finished the full job in about the same time it would have usually taken just to erect scaffolding. We are now convinced that powered access is the way forward, - because of the short project execution time our company can now bid for & complete many more projects per year, which is excellent for our growth and increase of turnover.

Mr. David Cagigas (Rapid Middle East Managing Director) adds "This equipment was surveyed & upon confirmation Rapid brought this machine especially to KSA from UAE for this job. We were in contact with our client throughout the mobilization period & provided a specialist operator for this complex hi reach machine. We are very happy that our client is more that satisfied & hope that we can continue to work with them & KSA Royal Commission to enhance the efficiency & safety of all our personnel."
